Asteroid Flying Past Earth Tomorrow [watch]

Asteroid 2012 TC4, will be as close as 31,000 miles, when it passes us by on Wednesday, October 11. The 50-foot wide asteroid will be passing just an eighth of the distance that Earth is from the moon.

This isn’t the first time Earth has been close to this asteroid.  In 2012, only a week after its discovery, the object came within 94,000 kilometers above the Earth’s atmosphere, which is less than a quarter of the distance to the moon.

Several different agencies will track the asteroid as it flies between the Earth and moon. Virtual Telescope Project will track the asteroid beginning October 11 at 3 p.m. Eastern. The Tenegra observatory in Arizona begins tracking at 10 p.m. Eastern on October 12.
