Sugarland Hints at New Music / Garth Brooks Lip Sync Causes Country Music Drama

— Sugarland’s Kristian Bush and Jennifer Nettles caused a lot of excitement last week when they appeared on the CMA Awards together to present the Vocal Duo of the Year trophy — an award they’ve taken home several times. After listing the number of years they won the coveted award, Nettles implied to the crowd that they might be vying for the title again in the near future. The duo may have hinted at a Sugarland reunion while on the CMA stage, but their appearance at Big Machine Label Group’s CMA after-party solidified that prospect. During the party, Big Machine Records CEO Scott Borchetta introduced Kristian and Jennifer to the stage for a performance of their hit “Stay.” While there’s no official announcement about their new music, Sugarland did start a new Instagram account with a photo of the pair and the hashtag “#StillTheSame.” Sugarland is expected to announce their new music in the coming weeks.

Even before hinting at Sugarland’s return on last week’s CMA Awards, Kristian Bush said he’s always been open to reuniting with Jennifer Nettles for a new project:

— At least two of the audience members at last week’s CMA Awards didn’t approve of Garth Brooks’ decision to lip-sync his song “Ask Me How I Know” during the show. On Thursday (11/9), Miranda Lambert’s boyfriend, Anderson East, took to Instagram to give the reigning Entertainer of the Year a piece of his mind about his lip-synced performance. Responding to an E! News story of Garth’s explanation for why he lip-synched, Anderson wrote, “I keep a lot of my opinions to myself and respect anyone making music but as a person who tries to put on the best and most honest show I can night after night… this truly offends me. I was told country music is three chords and the truth.”

Anderson’s Instagram post was soon inundated with hundreds of comments, including one from Miranda herself backing up her man. Miranda wrote, “High Five on this babe. If you can’t sing then don’t. It’s better to be honest than to pretend. I think it’s bull s**t. My favorite performances in the show were live live. The truth.”
